Erbil recently hosted a unique festival dedicated to showcasing authentic Kurdish chickens and roosters, with some prized birds fetching prices as high as $1,000.
The one-day event featured 250 different poultry and bird species competing for top honors. A pure Kurdish chicken claimed first place, and its owner proudly declared it was priceless, refusing to sell it even for $1,000.
This marks the festival’s second year, highlighting a wide variety of poultry breeds and colors. The event also celebrated the most beautiful geese, with two award-winning entries of French and German lineage valued at $3,000 and $21,000, respectively.
The festival attracted participants from across Iraq, with an expert panel of eight judges evaluating the contestants. The diverse lineup of poultry captivated visitors, adding to the vibrant celebration of heritage and beauty.
