In Resolution 134/54, the UN General Assembly designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women The problems faced by women in the world, such as sexual assault, domestic violence and other forms of violence, on top of these, highlighting the major problem that still exists in most societies it is hidden.
In fact, this international attention to the issue of violence against women is due to the brutal murder of the Mirabal sisters, political activists, who were ordered by the Dominican dictatorship in the 1960s Women in the Caribbean have designated November 25 as the International Day of Violence against Women in Latin America, which was declared an official day by the United Nations in
Violence against women has become a global phenomenon and developed societies are not exempt from this phenomenon. The difference is that they do not hide these cases and openly talk about them and present statistics in Every ten minutes, a woman in the world is brutally murdered by her husband or relatives.
For example, in a developed country like Italy in 2017, 49,000 women went to anti-violence centers and told them about their terrible situation.
– How will this wave of violence against women end?
First, by prosecuting and punishing criminals, and second, by changing public opinion in society, through proper education and a positive attitude towards women in general, through legal support and financial assistance to the women’s movement.
For example, according to the statistics of violence against women in the Kurdistan Region for 2022, (16623) cases were in the provinces and autonomous administrations, including (6040) victims in Erbil, (4541) in Duhok and (3916) in In the autonomous administrations, Garmian (1096), Raperin (650) and Soran (380).
In fact, we cannot say that the statistics we have are very accurate, because there are many women who either do not dare or do not register the violence because of their families and society or are silenced under threat, certainly of this kind Disrespect and violence against women are much more common in these societies.
Therefore, more attention should be paid to this issue in the field of education and taught as a lesson in schools and the view of women as weak, powerless and incapable to be removed from the public consciousness and as perfect human beings in every way This can be done with the support of the law and the authorities and raising public awareness.
In conclusion, we say;
The level of consciousness and civilization of a people is measured equally by women and their rights.
