As Halabja prepares for significant development, the master plan, inspired by PM Barzani’s visit, promises to revitalize the city and its infrastructure.
The implementation of Halabja’s master plan has been awarded to a reputable foreign company. Azad Tofiq, the Governor of Halabja, emphasized that this initiative resulted from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister’s recent visit to the city.
On September 26, 2024, the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism signed a contract with a well-known foreign company to implement Halabja’s master plan, in the presence of Sasan Auni, Minister of Municipalities and Tourism, and Azad Tofiq, Governor of Halabja.
On June 30, 2024, Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, made an important visit to both Sulaimani and Halabja. During this visit, he laid the foundation stone for the Halabja silo and held meetings and discussions with local administrative officials. Additionally, he engaged in several face-to-face discussions with residents from various areas within both provinces and the surrounding administrative units.
The Prime Minister attentively listened to their requests and assured them that the Kurdistan Regional Government would take necessary actions to address the needs of the people in these provinces, as well as in the districts and villages.
In response, the Prime Minister made several key decisions aimed at enhancing services for citizens in both Sulaimani and Halabja, along with the independent administrations of Raparin and Garmiyan.
Governor Azad Tofiq told The Kurdish Globe that the master plan would be implemented within 450 days at a cost exceeding one billion dinars, sourced from the KRG budget. Full coordination and support will be provided between the Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism and Halabja province to ensure effective implementation.
He highlighted that the chosen company is a highly regarded firm in the Middle East, known for executing various master plans in the Kurdistan Region, including the Erbil Green Belt and other major projects.
The governor expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for his commitment to advancing Halabja’s master plan. Tofiq noted that the initiative is a direct outcome of the Prime Minister’s visit and anticipates that its execution will mark a significant step toward reconstructing the city.
On March 28, 2024, Prime Minister Barzani authorized the allocation of necessary funds for the Halabja master plan project.
The execution of this plan is expected to revitalize Halabja across all sectors, establishing a robust infrastructure foundation. This comprehensive project will address essential aspects of the city, setting the stage for a new and advanced phase in Halabja’s development.
The master plan will guide urban expansion and land use, covering industrial, residential, agricultural, tourism, commercial, and public service sectors. It will also consider environmental, demographic, social, economic, health, and educational factors while acknowledging Halabja’s historical significance and its future influence.
