Iraq and the Kurdistan Region are a different combination

By    Tahseen Wsu Abdullah

In 1991, the Kurdish people stood up against the injustice, repression, arbitrariness, and dictatorship of the Ba’ath regime in the Kurdistan Region.

This revival coincided with the support of the international community for the struggle and sacrifices of the Kurdish people against an authoritarian repressive regime. These expulsions of the regime’s institutions were like going out of the door, in the sense that in the Kurdistan Region, both at the level of citizens as individuals and at the level of political parties, the vast majority agreed on what should happen The Iraqi government should withdraw from the Kurdistan Region and the Kurdistan Region should govern itself.

This step was a real and natural beginning that the Kurdistan Region does not want to live with an Iraq whose system and method of governance is authoritarian and dictatorial, does not respect differences and does not give any characteristics to the communities within Iraq.

Twelve years later, Iraq faced direct intervention by US and allied forces. In April 2003, a dictatorial regime was overthrown, and another system was established to prevent a repeat of the bitter history of the Iraqi state It has been seen as a means of oppression, rather than a means of prosperity and peaceful reconciliation of differences.

The form of the state in Iraq after 2003 was very different for the Kurdistan Region. This difference was reflected in two points. The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) political leadership decided to participate in the future of the state and play a key role.

On the other hand, the form of the state as enshrined in the Iraqi constitution was the form for which the Kurds in Iraq had struggled and sacrificed, they were the main reason for the Kurdistan Region to participate in the future of the state.

However, the intentions of the Iraqi parties soon became clear that they no longer intend to implement what is enshrined in the constitution in the new Iraq. There are many living examples of the bad intentions of the political elite in Baghdad towards the Kurdistan Region, but they have not achieved their goals.

Along with the bad intentions of the ruling leaders in Baghdad, some Kurdish parties are helping Iraq to behave in this way towards the Kurdistan Region. Previous regimes in Iraq tried to attract the majority or all of the people, but failed, which was directly related to the will of those who considered themselves the owners of the Kurdish people’s cause, but after all the separation of Iraqi government institutions in the Kurdistan Region This desire is seen by some parties, groups and individuals, who consider it necessary to return the Kurdistan Region under the rule of the Iraqi state.

So, after 30 years of expulsion and rejection of the Iraqi government institutions in the Kurdistan Region, the Iraqi government has once again crept into Kurdistan in a different way, but what an arrival! That is completely different from previous times, because based on the wishes and demands of some of the (owners of the house!) This is like being kicked out of the door and the doors are closed on you, but people open the window for you and come in.
