The ENKS President’s perspective for The Kurdish Globe: President Barzani’s vision for Syria and Rojava Kurdistan holds great importance
In an interview with The Kurdish Globe, Sherko Habib, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) representative in Egypt, discusses the significance of the Kurdistan Region’s position in the region and highlights the pivotal role of President Barzani in fostering strong international relations.
Kurdish Globe: What is the importance of the Kurdistan Region’s position in the region, particularly its relations with the outside world and Arab countries?
Sherko Habib: It is important that Kurdistan’s relations in all aspects are valued and developed, whether with the United States, Europe, or regional countries. Undoubtedly, it is crucial to pay attention to all Arab relations, especially with those countries that hold significant weight and importance on the international level, whether in political or economic spheres.
Kurdish Globe: How do you assess the visits of the Kurdistan Prime Minister to Arab countries, especially the UAE and Jordan?
Sherko Habib: The recent visit of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani to Abu Dhabi and his meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates is particularly noteworthy. The UAE holds a prominent political and economic position in the region. Prime Minister Barzani has actively worked to strengthen relations between Kurdistan and the UAE, emphasizing shared principles and interests. These efforts are particularly focused on the economic sector and an understanding of the latest developments in the region. The UAE, along with other Gulf countries, plays a vital role on both regional and global stages. This meeting, at such a critical time, aligns the views and interests of both parties and brings them closer together for mutual benefit.
Kurdish Globe: What is the attitude of the Gulf countries towards the Kurdistan Region?
Sherko Habib: Gulf countries have a positive attitude towards Kurdistan. The region is peaceful, offers ample job opportunities, and has become an attractive hub for investment. The security and stability in Kurdistan, coupled with favorable conditions for foreign investments, have encouraged Gulf countries to build stronger ties with the region. They value the peace and safety Kurdistan offers.
Kurdish Globe: There is much discussion about the importance of President Barzani’s role in the region. How can his influence further strengthen Kurdistan’s diplomacy?
Sherko Habib: President Barzani’s leadership has been instrumental in elevating Kurdistan’s international standing. His efforts have consistently focused on fostering relationships based on mutual interests, especially with Arab nations. President Barzani has played a key role in building strong ties with countries like Egypt, Jordan, and the Gulf states. The sustained engagement of Kurdistan Regional Government officials, including President of Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, has further reinforced these connections. For instance, in Egypt, there was limited awareness about the suffering and struggles of the Kurdish people. However, with the establishment of the KDP office and increased engagement, greater understanding and support for the Kurdish cause have emerged. President Barzani’s leadership continues to underpin these successful efforts, ensuring that Kurdistan remains a significant partner in the region.
Kurdish Globe: What is the significance of opening embassies and consular offices in Kurdistan, particularly by Arab countries?
Sherko Habib: The significance of opening representative offices for Arab and non-Arab countries indicates that Kurdistan is a peaceful and stable region that respects human rights and freedoms, providing a broad platform for countries to invest and conduct business. This is important today as it demonstrates that the region offers a calm and reliable market. Therefore, Arab countries, in particular, are encouraged to open representative offices and engage in trade activities. Additionally, the establishment of consular offices signifies that citizens of these countries reside in Kurdistan, which reflects the peaceful and harmonious coexistence in the region.
