KRG advocates stability and progress in the region

KRG’s EU Representative highlights Kurdistan’s growing role in diplomacy, promoting stability, hosting international events, and fostering regional dialogue

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Representative to the European Union discussed the relations between the Kurdistan Region and Europe, highlighting that Kurdistan has taken significant diplomatic steps and is determined to continue advancing its diplomacy.

Dilawar Ajgayi, the KRG Representative to the European Union, told The Kurdish Globe:

“All parties emphasize the return of peace to the region. Stability can serve as a foundation for countries to progress and resolve conflicts. Over the past two weeks, we held a series of meetings with European Parliament members, especially those involved in foreign policy. Some of them expressed their intention to visit the Kurdistan Region to observe the situation firsthand, gather more information, and work toward resolving some of the existing issues. Kurdistan has played a crucial role in the region, bolstered its diplomatic relations, and maintained a strong and balanced presence in the area.”

Ajgayi continued: “Kurdistan has made significant strides in hosting international visitors and organizing events, as evidenced by the MEPS Summit held in Duhok, where nearly 40 countries participated, including the United States, the United Kingdom, European nations, countries from the Middle East, and neighboring states.”

He stated: “The participants in this summit hold high levels of responsibility in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Turkey. This underscores the importance of such gatherings as opportunities for dialogue, conflict reduction, and finding solutions to the Middle East’s challenges, particularly those linked to the region’s security and stability, which have a direct impact on the area.”

He pointed out: “Countries also express concerns about their national security, as the instability is not confined to the Kurdistan Region but affects the entire area. This instability often complicates general visits to the region, as airspace closures sometimes occur due to ongoing conflicts. However, if international representatives wish to visit Kurdistan, we are always ready to facilitate their trips and extend invitations to key summits such as MEPS.”

Ajgayi emphasized: “The Kurdistan Region has become a significant hub for diplomatic activity in Europe and the Middle East in recent years. Whether at the level of heads of state or regional affairs, there is visible progress year after year as we gain experience and recognition on the international stage.”

He added: “Kurdistan’s ability to maintain such diplomatic balance positions is to take crucial steps for the future of the region. The leadership of Kurdistan is acutely aware of the current situation and is taking precautionary measures to ensure that neither Iraq nor Kurdistan becomes embroiled in an unwanted conflict in the region.”
