Every event that occurs often comes with risks, particularly those that alter the existing balance of the region.
The Kurdistan Region has stood as a beacon of stability, with its government and leadership—especially President Barzani—maintaining this stability even through the most challenging events of the last 30 years. The region has not only preserved its own stability but has also played a key role in reducing tensions, wars, and conflicts.
In addition, the Kurdistan Region played a major role in the fight against ISIS and continues to be an important factor in eliminating and weakening any attempt by terrorist groups to emerge in the area. It has also served as a safe haven, protecting millions of displaced people, offering them a chance to rebuild their lives, and providing essential services.
This role has been instrumental in reducing humanitarian crises, preventing the destruction of civilian lives, and offering shelter to those in fear of violence.
Moreover, the Kurdistan Region has addressed the events unfolding in Syria and the broader region in a balanced and stable manner, thus reducing humanitarian disasters, slowing down conflicts, and mitigating the impact of wars. The region prioritizes the welfare of civilians, never pursuing its own interests at the expense of their safety and well-being.
It remains to be seen how the Kurdistan Region can continue to maintain its stability while contributing to the de-escalation of regional conflicts. Strengthening and reorganizing the Peshmerga forces should be a priority, with increased efforts in this regard.
At the same time, the region must focus on strengthening diplomatic ties with major powers and neighboring countries, preparing for potential humanitarian challenges in Syria, and addressing further displacement.
Additionally, the Kurdistan Region can enhance its role as a mediator and a stabilizing force. It is crucial that international communities and consulates support the Kurdistan Region in maintaining its stability, as this will contribute to peace and security in the broader region.
