Kurdistan sees economic gains from Davos visit

Kurdistan is capitalizing on Davos meetings, fostering Qatar investments in industry, agriculture, and tourism through future economic forums.

The Head of the Investment Board stated that the industrial, agricultural, and tourism sectors are key priorities for the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the KRG officials emphasize that the region is now starting to see the benefits of its participation in the Davos meetings.

In the past, discussions during the Davos meetings led to significant developments, including talks between the Kurdistan Investment Board, Qatari investors, and the Qatari Chamber of Commerce. These meetings were the foundation of an agreement signed at Davos 2024, which aims to boost economic collaboration. Mohammed Shukri, Head of the Kurdistan Investment Board, confirmed that they are working to attract more Qatari investment to the region. Efforts are currently underway to hold an economic forum between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar.

Shukri mentioned that they are targeting October of this year for the conference. In this context, Qatari officials have expressed their willingness to invest in the Kurdistan Region. As Prime Minister Barzani has highlighted, the Kurdistan Region requires increased investment, and Qatar is expected to contribute to the fields of industry, agriculture, and tourism.

Idris Ismail, a former member of the Kurdistan Parliament, told The Kurdish Globe that discussions are ongoing at the ministerial level to establish an investment federation between the Kurdistan Region and Qatar. The Qatari side has shown readiness to invest in a wide range of sectors within the region.

Qatari media have been reporting on the growing cooperation between the two sides, particularly in the investment sector. They have underscored the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between Qatar and the Kurdistan Region, including collaboration between professionals from both areas.

“Kurdistan offers a favorable environment for business and investment. The region provides numerous opportunities across various sectors and has a peaceful atmosphere that fosters foreign investment. Kurdistan actively encourages coordination with foreign companies and investors,” Ismail noted.

He concluded by stating that the Kurdistan Region is now beginning to gain the benefits of its engagement at Davos.
