A statue of the renowned Kurdish artist Shkur Khayat was unveiled in a solemn ceremony in Kirkuk, where his contributions to Kurdish art and culture were remembered with great respect.
The event was attended by local residents, artists, and members of Khayat’s family, who gathered to pay tribute to his legacy. The ceremony began with a moment of silence in honor of the late artist and all the martyrs of the nation. This was followed by the official unveiling of the statue, after which attendees placed wreaths at its base as a gesture of respect and remembrance.
Shkur Khayat was born in 1940 in Qalghanlou village near Khurmatu town. He married in 1967 and had five daughters and three sons. After battling illness, he spent 11 days in a hospital in Erbil before passing away on August 18, 2023.
His enduring influence on Kurdish art continues to inspire future generations, and the statue now stands as a lasting tribute to his invaluable contributions.
