Amid regional changes, Kurdistan’s tenth cabinet must prioritize governance, resolve key challenges, and fulfill people’s demands under Masrour Barzani’s leadership.
After the Kurdistan Parliament elections, political parties’ discussions continue to form the government, but they haven’t concluded. There are calls to expedite government formation and respond to people’s demands.
On October 20, 2024, the Kurdistan Parliamentary elections were held, and the parties’ discussions for forming the government are still not complete. In his latest message regarding this, President Barzani says: “It is a great pleasure that Kurdistan Parliament elections were successfully held last October, and in these elections, the people of Kurdistan clearly conveyed their message and will. On this basis, the voice and demands of Kurdistan’s people must be answered through the rapid formation of the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government, so that the regional government can implement its plans and programs to serve the people of Kurdistan.”
He also adds: “We emphasize that within the framework of the constitution and agreements, and through dialogue and coordination between the Federal Iraqi Government and Kurdistan Regional Government, problems between both sides should be resolved, and no more obstacles should be created for Kurdistan people’s rights.”
Regarding the formation of the tenth cabinet, Nazim Harki, member of KDP’s Central Committee, told The Kurdish Globe: “This year, the formation of the tenth cabinet must be expedited through PDK and Masrour Barzani’s efforts commitment. A strong and resilient government is planned to serve the Kurdistan Region’s people and secure their legitimate rights. There are also important plans and programs to resolve the salary issues and the Kurdistan Region’s financial dues with Iraq. Next year will be the year of forming a strong and resilient government.”
He also stated: “Changes in the region require expediting the formation of the government cabinet because the new cabinet will respond to many major challenges in the region. Today, the Kurdistan Region stands before an open horizon. The ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government has proven its leadership in promoting, supporting, and maintaining security, stability, prosperity, expanding capabilities, and encouraging economic, social, and political freedoms and choices. The tenth cabinet must both complement the past and respond to the future.”
Regarding this matter, Dr. Saman Sorani, a political observer, writes about the formation of the tenth cabinet: “Facing the challenges of recent transformations in the region will not achieve success if we cannot create new thoughts and ideas and create new opportunities, or if we run away from confrontations and distance ourselves from the duty of innovation and playing our role because identity is what we achieve and perform well. Meaning, what we do with ourselves, and the world is identity, not just what we have in our memories and preserve or defend. We eagerly await the formation of the tenth cabinet of government, so that a capable personality like Masrour Barzani can continue as head of the government cabinet with his programs for establishing good governance, progress, stability, and sovereignty of the Kurdish people.”
He also said: “We believe one of the most important responsibilities of the tenth cabinet, which is expected to be formed in the near future, is establishing regional sovereignty and legitimacy over all regional areas, strengthening official military and security capabilities, achieving social justice, balanced development, and expanding administrative decentralization that doesn’t contradict the law. The region’s general policy should be directed towards solving normal issues and matters without returning to central administration, meaning administrative decentralization. Strengthening national unity and focusing on protecting the region’s constitutional entity and defending the constitutional rights of Kurdish people should be work priorities.”
He also conveyed: “The risks and obstacles are many, therefore we see it necessary that a government be formed under the leadership of statesman Masrour Barzani, because he has proven to both internal and external parties that he is a statesman with a strong vision for future-building and nation-building, and during his management of the ninth cabinet, he took extraordinary steps for construction, infrastructure strengthening, development, and diplomacy.”
