The black coup of February

By   Salam Abdullah

The Iraqi people, including all communities, warmly welcomed the coup d’état of July 14, 1958, which ended the monarchy in Iraq, which was carried out by the Iraqi military forces.

From the beginning, the coup plotters pretended that they had come to establish a democratic and progressive system, so they gradually gave permission to most of the banned parties in Iraq and created a democratic situation in the country and some appropriate decisions They were given appropriate measures that were in the interest of the people in general. The third point of the provisional constitution referred to the Kurds as partners with the Arabs in Iraq.

However, these coup plotters soon abandoned most of the provisions of the constitution and democratic rights and began to harass the Kurdish people, which was the main reason for cutting off all ties with the government The military offensive against our people began on September 11,

This attack and retreat from the establishment of a democratic state created a favorable environment for the nationalist and chauvinist Arab movement, especially as the Iraqi democratic forces had no role in the administration of power and power day after day Roj was moving towards dictatorship and had waged a full-scale war against the Kurds, thus opening the way for the destruction of himself and his dictatorial system, so the regime was overthrown in a military coup The dictator and his companions bowed down.

By the nature of the chauvinist Arab nationalists and the new coup plotters, who did not believe in Kurdish rights or democracy, they have a very unfavorable, inhuman and undemocratic system of governance in Iraq It consolidated governments that lasted up to 40 years and were overthrown in 2003 by US-led foreign forces.

February 8, 1963 was a dark day in Iraqi history, when it was thought that the chauvinism and stronghold of the dominant nation was over Arab ethnic ideology and chauvinism are still rampant, if not more intense and frightening.
