Call to rescue Yazidi women and girls in Syria

Vian Dakhil: The new Syrian government must make every effort to rescue Yazidi girls and women

Vian Dakhil, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) faction in the Iraqi Parliament, has called on Syria’s new government to take immediate action to locate and rescue Yazidi girls and women still under the control of ISIS. In her statement, Dakhil urged the Syrian authorities, following the rise of President Ahmed Shara, to address the ongoing crisis faced by Yazidi women and girls in various parts of Syria, many of whom continue to endure horrific abuse.

Dakhil emphasized that this issue cannot be delayed any further, urging the Iraqi government to contact the new Syrian leadership directly. She called for strengthened intelligence cooperation and the establishment of official channels between the Iraqi government, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and Syria in order to achieve swift and positive results.

The KDP spokesperson also acknowledged the efforts of the Kurdistan Regional Government and its specialized institutions, particularly the Office for Rescuing Yazidi Girls and Women. These organizations have been at the forefront of efforts to free Yazidi captives and provide support for their rehabilitation, offering crucial psychological and social services to survivors of ISIS violence.
