Erbil Launches Project to Renovate and Document Historical Neighborhoods
Governor supports initiative to preserve the city’s architectural heritage and restore ancient houses
The Governor of Erbil met with a delegation from the Khan Architecture Organization to discuss a major project aimed at documenting and renovating Erbil’s historic neighborhoods and houses. Attended by the Director of Erbil Antiquities, provincial engineers, experts, and archaeologists, the meeting focused on preserving the city’s unique architectural identity.
A scientific study was presented outlining the blueprints, layouts, and heritage features of historic houses, along with a plan for renovation using case studies, surveys, and detailed architectural diagrams. The Governor emphasized full provincial support and appointed a committee to conduct further studies and oversee implementation, underscoring Erbil’s commitment to safeguarding its status as one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities.
