Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said the Kurdistan Parliament “belongs to the people” and must not be held hostage to partisan interests, urging political parties to put national priorities ahead of political disputes during the inauguration of a strategic water project serving 53 villages in the Barzan area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Prime Minister said the Kurdistan Regional Government’s foremost responsibility is to deliver essential services to all citizens without discrimination. He noted that despite the financial, security, and health crises the Region has faced in recent years, the successful completion of the project by local engineers demonstrates that determination and public service can overcome even the most difficult challenges.
Addressing the political situation, PM Barzani voiced concern over the delay in forming the tenth KRG cabinet and the continued inactivity of the Kurdistan Parliament. He called on all political parties to place the public interest above partisan calculations, stressing that Parliament is the property of the people and should not be used to obstruct government formation or advance narrow political agendas.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s readiness to work with all political forces, extending what he described as a hand of friendship and consensus to move the Region through a critical period.
On relations between Erbil and Baghdad, PM Barzani expressed support for the new Iraqi federal government led by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, particularly welcoming its efforts to combat corruption. He emphasized that Iraq’s Constitution must be implemented fully and without discrimination to guarantee the constitutional rights and financial entitlements of the people of the Kurdistan Region.
He also condemned the recent attacks targeting the Kurdistan Region, stressing that Kurdistan is not a party to regional conflicts and remains committed to peace and stability.
Concluding his remarks, PM Barzani praised the Barzan area’s long-standing tradition of environmental protection and forest conservation, describing it as an example for the rest of the Region. He pledged that the KRG would continue investing in strategic infrastructure projects and responding to challenges through development, adding that Kurdistan’s determination to rebuild is stronger than any external pressure or adversity.
