Sami Abdulrahman Park becomes a hub for cultural activity, local businesses, and young entrepreneurs
Sami Abdulrahman Park in Erbil has once again demonstrated its role as a centre for economic, cultural, and social activities with the opening of the Erbil Summer Festival, organized by Erbil Municipality to support local entrepreneurs and create opportunities for young people, particularly women.
The festival was opened in an official ceremony attended by senior officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government, including Sasan Awni, Minister of Municipalities and Tourism; Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil; and Karzan Abdulhadi, Mayor of Erbil, along with several government officials, directors, and political figures.
During their visit to the festival’s sections and stalls, officials praised the efforts of participants and emphasized continued government support for initiatives that strengthen the local economy, encourage entrepreneurship, and provide new sources of income for citizens.
One of the most prominent features of the festival was the active participation of Kurdish women entrepreneurs. Women displayed their handmade products, traditional foods, local brands, artistic creations, and various goods through specially prepared stalls, highlighting their growing role in business and economic activity.
The participation of women reflected the increasing opportunities available for Kurdish women to develop independent businesses and transform their skills and creativity into successful economic projects.
Erbil Municipality established more than 200 stalls and spaces throughout Sami Abdulrahman Park and provided them free of charge to participants from different sectors. The festival featured handicrafts, arts, traditional products, and small businesses that attracted visitors from across the Kurdistan Region and beyond.
The event created a lively atmosphere combining commerce, culture, and entertainment, while also contributing to the revival of Erbil’s tourism and local markets.
The Erbil Summer Festival is expected to encourage more young people to pursue entrepreneurship and develop independent businesses, while offering residents and visitors a cultural experience that reflects the creativity and diversity of the Kurdistan Region.
