Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi following his official visit to the UAE.
The meeting received significant attention from Emirati and regional media, with several major UAE newspapers featuring it prominently on their front pages. The English-language daily The National published a large photograph of the two leaders under the headline “Leaders Receive Kurdistan Prime Minister,” noting the participation of senior Emirati officials, including Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed.
Relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE have expanded considerably in recent years. Officials from both sides have repeatedly stressed the importance of increasing bilateral trade and encouraging Emirati investment in key sectors of the Kurdistan Region, particularly agriculture, tourism, and infrastructure.
Major UAE newspapers, including Al-Ittihad, Al-Bayan, Al-Khaleej, Al-Watan, and The National, gave extensive coverage to the meeting.
Several newspapers focused on the role of the meeting in strengthening security, stability, and peace in the Middle East. Al-Ittihad and Al-Khaleej carried the headline, “Head of State and Masrour Barzani: Consolidating the Foundations of Security, Stability, and Peace in the Middle East.”
Al-Bayan and Al-Watan emphasized the development of friendly relations between the UAE and Iraq, particularly the Kurdistan Region, and highlighted the two sides’ interest in expanding cooperation in ways that serve their mutual interests.
The reports also highlighted hopes that continued high-level meetings would contribute to development and help advance the aspirations of both peoples.
According to the official statement issued after the meeting, Barzani and Sheikh Mohamed condemned the recent attacks against the UAE and stressed the importance of protecting peace and security in the region.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening relations between the Kurdistan Region and the UAE and expanding cooperation and coordination across various fields.
The discussions also covered the latest regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.
