Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has approved the implementation of the final eight kilometer section of the Erbil-Koya dual carriageway, allocating 117 billion dinars for its completion.
Once finished, the road will extend fully to the city of Koya and link with the city’s planned 60 meter street. The final section will be constructed to the same engineering standards as previous phases, with three lanes on each side and several overpasses designed to ease traffic flow and improve safety.
The Erbil-Koya road is regarded as a key route within the Kurdistan Region’s transport network. It serves as a strategic link connecting the capital with the provinces of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, the independent administrations, and the wider road corridor extending toward Duhok.
The dual carriageway was launched under a directive by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani with a total budget of 560 billion and 446 million dinars. According to project data, around 30 percent of the work has been completed so far.
