Cinema concert in Sulaymaniyah brings French film to life

The Sulaymaniyah Directorate of Culture and Arts, in partnership with the French Institute and Zoya Culture, hosted a special cinema evening at Cinema Salem, featuring a French film screening with Kurdish subtitles.
Dana Karim, filmmaker and head of Zoya Culture, said the event is part of the French Cinema Evenings project, launched in Sulaymaniyah by the French Institute in Erbil and Zoya Culture in cooperation with the Sulaymaniyah Directorate of Culture and Arts. The project screens a French film once a month, introducing local audiences to French cinema while supporting the growth of the Kurdish cinematic scene.
This particular screening was unique as it marked the first “cinema concert” in Kurdistan and the surrounding region. Alongside the film, live music was performed on stage, creating a combined experience of cinema and live performance. Organizers expressed hope that the project will continue and expand, offering more innovative cultural events in the future.
