A new cultural and literary landmark has officially opened its doors in Sulaymaniyah with the inauguration of the Sherko Bekas Museum, dedicated to preserving the legacy of the late Kurdish poet Sherko Bekas. The museum aims to serve as a gathering place for literature enthusiasts while showcasing the poet’s life, works, and contributions to Kurdish literature.
The museum has been designed with multiple sections to provide a comprehensive cultural experience. On the ground floor, visitors can find a coffee shop and a library, offering a relaxed environment for readers and students. A dedicated hall displays the poet’s biography and highlights significant milestones in his life, providing insight into his literary journey.
On the upper floor, the museum features an international room for translating Sherko Bekas’s works into major languages, an initiative that seeks to introduce Kurdish poetry and the poet’s writings to a global audience.
In addition, the museum includes a special collection section displaying all of Bekas’s published works, ensuring researchers, students, and readers have direct access to his poetry. A special events hall has also been constructed, providing a venue for cultural events, literary discussions, and other activities aimed at promoting Kurdish literature in Sulaymaniyah and beyond.
