Duhok hosts fourth Kurdistan Literary Festival

The fourth Kurdistan Literary Festival was held in Duhok, bringing together poets and writers from across the four parts of Kurdistan and providing a platform for literary exchange and cultural dialogue.
The festival featured 35 poets from the four parts of Kurdistan, who presented their original works. A specialised literary committee reviewed and evaluated the submissions, with a number of poems advancing to the final stage of the competition.
The festival has become an important event in the region’s cultural calendar, providing an opportunity for poets and writers to exchange ideas and perspectives and strengthening connections through Kurdish literature and poetry.
Alend Mazmuri, the festival’s organiser, said the event is held annually and has previously taken place in Erbil and Sulaimani.
“This festival is an annual event, and in past years it was held in the cities of Erbil and Sulaimani. It is a cause for joy that this year the city of Duhok hosted it,” Mazmuri said.
He said this year’s festival focused on original poetry and included a competition in three main categories: complex classical poetry, native classical poetry, and free verse.
The fourth Kurdistan Literary Festival in Duhok highlighted the role of literature in connecting Kurdish writers and poets from different parts of Kurdistan and creating a space for cultural exchange through the Kurdish language.
