A fine arts exhibition titled “After Leaving” opened at the World Gallery in Erbil, bringing together artists, cultural figures, and public officials in a celebration of the Kurdistan Region’s vibrant visual arts scene.
The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw and featured the latest works of 25 visual artists. The collection presented a diverse range of artistic styles and perspectives, exploring the theme of “After Leaving” through reflections on departure, transition, and the emotional impact of leaving a place, a circumstance, or a stage of life.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Qarani Jamil Medal to 11 veteran artists in recognition of their longstanding contributions to the development of the visual arts movement in Kurdistan. The awards honoured decades of artistic service and were widely welcomed as a tribute to pioneering artists while inspiring younger generations to pursue creative excellence.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Khoshnaw praised the organisers and reaffirmed Erbil’s commitment to supporting culture and the arts. He said the city would continue to provide an environment that encourages artistic creativity and strengthens the cultural sector.
The exhibition underscored Erbil’s growing role as a cultural centre, highlighting the city’s commitment to preserving artistic heritage while promoting contemporary creativity and celebrating the achievements of its artists.
