Global Warming and Its Environmental Consequences on the World

Climate pollution and global warming are among the most dangerous crises of our time, posing a real threat to the future of life on our planet. This crisis is mainly the result of endless human activities, especially burning fossil fuels and cutting down forests, which lead to the buildup and create more greenhouse gases. The effects of this pollution can be seen in the rapid melting of Icebergs, droughts, rising sea levels, and the complete destruction of our ecological balance. To prevent this disaster, humanity must urgently switch to clean energy and shift the global economic system from greed to environmental protection.

Global warming is seriously damaging the Earth’s natural balance. It is not only an environmental problem, it is also a danger to all living things and creature. Because the climate is changing quickly and natural habitats are being destroyed, thousands of animals and plants may become extinct because they cannot adapt fast enough. People are also suffering. More floods, forest fires, and droughts threaten our food and clean water, and force millions of people to leave their homes. If this problem continues, the Earth may change from a green planet full of life into a dry and damaged place where people and other living things can no longer live safely. According to Peter Sloterdijk a German philosopher and cultural theorist, by burning too much fuel, humans have caused global warming and ecological collapse, turning nature from an endless space into a very fragile environment. Therefore, true environmental awareness means that humans must let go of their arrogance and build a ‘shared defense’, working together as one team to save and protect the Earth, our only shared home. And also, According to Noam Chomsky, ecological destruction and climate pollution are a proven scientific threat. The continuous release of greenhouse gases has pushed the Earth to the edge of an irreversible tipping point. He warns that if we do not quickly stop using fossil fuels and switch to clean energy, we will face total destruction and the end of organized human life on this planet..

climate change, global warming, and ecological destruction are real and deadly threats to the Kurdistan Region. It is not safe from this global crisis at all. Instead, the region is now facing unprecedented heatwaves, decreasing groundwater, repeated droughts, and the rapid loss of green areas and forests. One of the biggest and most dangerous results of this crisis for Kurdistan’s future is climate migration. Because of record-high temperatures, fast desertification, and the dangerous drying up of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, southern and central Iraq are among the most damaged areas in the world. This terrible situation means that in the very near future, hundreds of thousands of Iraqi citizens will lose their farming resources and drinking water. As a result, they will move to the relatively cooler and wetter areas of the Kurdistan Region as climate refugees. Without a doubt, this huge wave of migration will put massive pressure on the region’s economy, population, public services, and security, while draining our natural resources much faster. To face these major threats and save Kurdistan’s environment, the government and citizens must urgently take several strategic and scientific steps. First, there must be a revolution in water management by building strategic dams, storing rainwater, and changing the farming irrigation system to modern drip methods to stop wasting water. Second, large national campaigns must be held to plant millions of trees and rebuild forests, while strictly enforcing laws against cutting trees, burning mountains, and destroying nature. Third, investing in clean and renewable energy, especially solar power, must become a government priority to reduce reliance on fuels and eliminate private generators, which are the main cause of air pollution in cities. Along with all this, the Kurdistan Region must prepare its infrastructure and city planning for the expected wave of refugees from southern Iraq. It must also use water diplomacy with Baghdad and neighboring countries to guarantee and protect Kurdistan’s water share. Today, environmental awareness and ecological protection are no longer just secondary issues or choices; they are the core of national security and the only way to guarantee the survival of life in Kurdistan.
