A story of dedication, discipline, and dual service
Goran Tariq is a brave and dedicated Peshmerga who, alongside his military duties, has built a strong passion for bodybuilding. Through relentless training and unwavering commitment, he achieved second place in Iraq’s national bodybuilding championship.
The event—known as the Erbil Championship—was organized by the Iraqi Bodybuilding Federation in Erbil and saw the participation of 120 athletes from across the country. Goran secured second place in this highly competitive tournament.
Goran told The Kurdish Globe: “My goal now is to carry the name of the Peshmerga with pride and write a beautiful legacy through my sport. I’m proud to be a Peshmerga.”
He also noted that all his training is done after work hours, ensuring that his athletic pursuit does not interfere with his professional duties. “I’ve always tried to fulfill both roles in the best way possible,” he added.
Goran described the intense routine he endured—training in both hot and cold weather, completing courses on his own, and pushing through fatigue. He trained early in the mornings, prepared his own meals, and still reported to work—never allowing sports to take away from his responsibilities as a Peshmerga.
Looking ahead, Goran hopes to represent the Peshmerga and Iraq in global bodybuilding championships—if more support and encouragement is made available.
Through The Kurdish Globe, Goran shares a message for the younger generation: “Play sports the foundation of your life. It will keep you healthy and away from hospitals. If you make fitness a lifestyle, you’ll live a better and stronger life.”
He also highlighted the importance of quality nighttime sleep as a key to physical well-being.
Goran expressed his heartfelt gratitude to his mother, father, sisters, and brothers for their support throughout his journey.
