Grika wins Kalakchi Volleyball Championship in straight sets

Grika swept Abu Jano in Kalakchi’s volleyball final as thousands of fans packed the stands

The volleyball final in the sub-district of Kalakchi was held between two local teams from the town — Abu Jano and Grika.
In the match, the Grika volleyball team claimed victory with a score of three sets to zero, becoming the champions of Kalakchi. The game was fiercely contested, with each set closely fought and the competition intense.
In the first set, Abu Jano scored 22 points against 25 for Grika. The second set was even closer, ending Abu Jano 30 to Grika 32. In the third set, Grika secured the win with 25 points to Abu Jano’s 17. Overall, all three sets of the Kalakchi town volleyball championship final went in favor of Grika, sealing their championship title.
What stood out was the remarkable presence of fans in the stadium, cheering enthusiastically for their teams. The match was also broadcast live on television, drawing attention across the region. The strong turnout of fans became a key highlight for athletes and sports enthusiasts in Kurdistan and Iraq.
The high-level competition between two local teams in Kalakchi reflects the vitality of volleyball in Kurdistan and especially in this town. Kalakchi, a sub-district of Shekhan in Duhok province, has a population of around 45,000 people. The town hosts various championships annually, and its residents are known for their exceptional passion for volleyball and sports of all kinds.
