Zakho FC has completed a surprise signing, bringing midfielder Haroon Ahmad back from Duhok in one of the most unexpected transfers of the summer window.
The club officially announced the deal on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, shortly after confirming the departure of Muqtada Hassan to Diyala FC. The move has been widely described as one of the biggest shocks of the transfer period.
Ahmad returns to Zakho after a notable spell with Duhok, where he registered one goal and four assists in 67 appearances. During his time there, he also helped the club secure two Iraqi Cup titles and a Canadian Champions League trophy, earning individual recognition as the 2025 Canadian Champions League Player of the Year.
Before his return, the midfielder also featured for Dalkurd, where he recorded two goals and one assist in 51 matches, further building his reputation as a creative and experienced playmaker.
Zakho supporters have welcomed the signing as a major boost, with expectations rising that Ahmad’s return will strengthen the squad ahead of the new season.
