Kurdish actor nominated at Amanda festival

Kurdish actor and former Peshmerga fighter Hamza Agoshi has been nominated for Best Actor at the prestigious Amanda Awards, Norway’s top honor in cinema. Agoshi, who resides in Norway and has appeared in several films and television series, continues to gain widespread recognition for his work in the Norwegian film industry.
The Amanda Awards, established in 1985, are presented annually at the Norwegian International Film Festival and celebrate outstanding achievements in film. The awards honor actors, directors, producers, cinematographers, and designers, with the iconic Amanda statuette symbolizing Norway’s dedication to cinematic excellence.
Agoshi’s latest film, Uncle Jens (Onkel Jens), is competing alongside international entries, further highlighting his growing influence. In a statement shared on his Facebook page, Agoshi expressed pride in the nomination and emphasized the significance of the film’s international reach.
This is not the first time a Kurdish artist has been recognized at the Amanda Awards. In a notable earlier win, Kurdish filmmaker Memed Aktash received the award for Best Screenplay for A Letter to the King, dedicating the honor to Yazidi children who lost their lives on Mount Sinjar.
Kurdish artists have increasingly used cinema and other forms of art to shed light on the struggles and resilience of the Kurdish people. Their work has earned critical acclaim and helped secure a place for Kurdish voices on the international stage.
