Karwan Hamid Halaq represents Kurdish music at a multicultural concert in the Netherlands
Kurdish singer Karwan Hamid Halaq has brought Kurdish music and culture to an international audience through his performance at a multicultural concert in Haarlem, the Netherlands.
Performing alongside the Artin music group, Halaq presented several Kurdish songs to an audience representing different cultures and backgrounds. He said his participation demonstrated that Kurdish art has the ability to connect with various musical traditions and find its place on international stages.
“It was a great honor to share the stage with the Artin music group at an international concert celebrating cultural diversity in Haarlem,” Halaq said. “This event was not only a musical programme, but also a gathering of artists from different cultures and languages who shared messages of peace, coexistence, and mutual understanding through art.”
He explained that the concert focused on combining Eastern and European musical styles, with each performance carrying its own story and creating a space for cultural exchange.
“The cooperation between singers and musicians transformed the concert into a platform for cultural dialogue, not just a place to perform songs,” he said.
Speaking about his role as a Kurdish artist, Halaq emphasized the responsibility of representing Kurdish identity and heritage on international stages.
“As a Kurdish artist, I felt a great responsibility standing on that stage because through my voice I wanted to convey part of the identity, history, and culture of the Kurdish people,” he said.
He added that the audience’s positive response showed the power of music to overcome differences.
“It was inspiring to see people connect with the music regardless of language or background. This once again proved that art is a universal language capable of bringing people closer together,” Halaq said.
The singer noted that international cultural events provide valuable opportunities for Kurdish artists to introduce the richness of Kurdish music and strengthen connections with artists from around the world.
“Whenever a Kurdish artist appears on such a stage, they represent not only themselves but also the music, language, and culture of a people with a deep history and authentic artistic traditions,” he said.
Karwan Hamid Halaq, originally from Kirkuk and currently residing in the Netherlands, has participated in numerous cultural and artistic festivals abroad, representing Kurdish and international cultural diversity.
