Ottawa – Kurdish athlete Halkawt Jaafar, originally from Duhok in Southern Kurdistan and now living in Canada, has set a new Guinness World Record for the most steps taken in 24 hours, registering 111,285 steps and surpassing the previous record of 108,887.
“I have been working to break this record for over 10 years, and finally, I achieved my dream,” Jaafar told reporters. He recalled overcoming severe foot injuries in 2023 and undergoing intense training to reach his goal. “After 24 hours of walking, I was able to make history in the name of the Kurdish nation,” he added.
In addition to his record-breaking feat, Jaafar aimed to support youth education programs in Ottawa. His efforts helped raise $7,000 for local youth initiatives.
Jaafar emphasized the role of his supporters: “The presence of my family, friends, and fellow Kurdish citizens encouraged me to break the record and win this award in the name of the Kurds. Although I grew up in Canada, my roots and identity are strongly tied to Kurdistan.”
He urged young people everywhere to pursue their dreams and never give up. Halkawt Jaafar’s achievement not only set a world record but also highlighted the determination and spirit of Kurdish youth on a global stage.
