Kurdish boxer wins silver at Swedish Championships

Local woman earns prestigious silver medal at Swedish Boxing Championships, inspiring future generations

A Kurdish woman has made a remarkable impact on the Swedish boxing scene, achieving a significant milestone that has garnered global media attention.

From December 6 to 8, 2024, the Swedish Boxing Championships (SVENSKA MÄSTERSKAPEN) took place in Eriksdalshallen, Sweden, with competitors across various levels in junior, youth, and advanced categories for both men and women. Among the standout performances was that of Berivan Hassan, a Kurdish boxer who clinched a silver medal in the highly competitive 63 kg weight category.

Competing in Group A, Berivan faced Sandra Mohammadzadeh from Hamrin Boxing Club in the semi-finals on December 7, 2024. Dominating the match, she secured a 5-0 victory, advancing to the final. The following day, Berivan faced Dina Davud from Örebro Boxing Club in the final but was defeated 0-5, earning her the silver medal.

Berivan, 31, was born in Sulaymaniyah and holds Swedish citizenship. Now residing in Umeå, she is a member of the IF KA Umeå boxing team. This marks her third successful appearance at the Swedish Boxing Championships, having previously won two bronze medals in the 63 kg category in 2021 and 2022.

Her achievements not only highlight her personal dedication and skill but also serve as an inspiration to future generations of athletes, particularly young women from Kurdish backgrounds.
