Kurdish champion Kianoush Rostami to represent Kosovo

Kianoush Rostami, the renowned Kurdish weightlifter and Olympic champion, has announced his decision to represent Kosovo in upcoming European and international competitions. The 33-year-old athlete, who hails from Kermanshah and competes in the 85 kg weight class, boasts an impressive medal collection, including a gold medal from the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and a silver from the 2012 London Olympics. He has also secured multiple titles at the World and Asian Championships.

Rostami has recently intensified his training regimen in Kermanshah, focusing on mountain climbing and rigorous exercises to prepare for the 2024 World Championships in Bahrain. His commitment reflects his determination to excel with the Kosovo national weightlifting team.

Before his decision to switch allegiances, Rostami expressed his desire to compete for Iran in the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics. He sought support from the Iranian Weightlifting Federation but felt overlooked despite his track record and experience. Now, with his sights set on new challenges, Rostami aims to add to his legacy with Kosovo.
