Kurdish karate sensation Golshadnezhad strikes gold in Riyadh

Kurdish karateka Atousa Golshadnezhad captured the gold medal in the under-61kg category at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, adding a major milestone to her rapidly rising career. Her victory marked Iran’s third karate gold and seventh medal overall at the multi-sport event.
Competing at Bin Faisal Stadium inside Malaz Hall, Golshadnezhad showcased precision, speed, and tactical skill. After receiving a bye in the opening round, she defeated Niger’s Nouma Mohamed 9–1 in her first match. In the semifinals, she dominated her Saudi opponent 10–2, advancing to the championship bout against Tunisia’s Wafa Mahjoub, where she secured an 8–4 win to claim the gold.
Born on June 22, 2003, in Bisotun, Kermanshah Province, Golshadnezhad began practicing karate at the age of six. She joined Iran’s National Karate Team at 14, marking the start of an impressive journey. Her early career highlights include gold at the 2021 Asian U21 Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and in 2023 she triumphed at the Asian Championships in Malacca, Malaysia in the -61kg division.
A student of Physical Education, Golshadnezhad credits her parents for unwavering support, ensuring she faced no financial obstacles while pursuing her sport. Her dedication and resilience have made her one of the most promising Kurdish athletes in karate.
Her gold medal in Riyadh not only celebrates her personal achievements but also solidifies her position as a rising star representing Kurdish talent on the international stage, inspiring young athletes across the region.
