Kurdish stars shine in Iraqi women’s futsal team

The Iraqi Women’s Futsal Team has arrived in Casablanca, Morocco, for a historic training camp ahead of the Asian Futsal Championship qualifiers. The delegation includes 15 players, with eight Kurdish athletes set to play a pivotal role in the team’s journey.

The team, led by Portuguese coach Vieira da Bettencourt, will train in Morocco for nine days. During this period, they will participate in two friendly matches against the Moroccan Women’s Futsal Team, providing an opportunity to refine their strategies and strengthen team cohesion.

The Kurdish players, representing over half of the squad, are Faiza Jalal, Salar Abdulwahed, Arina Samir, Bahra Dara, Derin Mahmoud, Sibel Shukr, Soz Kazem, and Ilaf Hesameddin. Their inclusion highlights the diverse talent contributing to Iraq’s representation on the international stage.

The upcoming Asian Futsal Championship qualifiers are scheduled to take place in Thailand in January 2025. Iraq will compete in Group A alongside Thailand, Lebanon, Bahrain, and Palestine, with matches set to run from January 11 to January 19.

This training camp marks a significant milestone for the Iraqi Women’s Futsal Team as they prepare to make their mark in the qualifiers, with the Kurdish players poised to play a vital role in their quest for success.
