The steps to create a unified national army for Kurdistan have entered the final stage. Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces are being dealt with internationally.

Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces, under the leadership of coalition forces, have taken important steps in unification and reorganization as an effective national force in the region and are being dealt with at the international level. Babaker Zebari, Military Advisor to the President of Kurdistan Region, in a statement to The Kurdish Globe, says: “The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is very serious about having one unified Peshmerga force. Our main goal is to unite all Peshmerga forces under the umbrella of the Ministry of Peshmerga. We no longer want any differences between Peshmerga, or for it to be said that this Peshmerga belongs to one party and that one belongs to another party.”

He also revealed: “The steps to unify the Peshmerga are continuing, much good work has been done on it, and the coalition forces are very supportive and backing the Peshmerga forces. The Peshmerga forces are being dealt with at the international level, and now the process of unifying Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces is proceeding continuously and successfully and has seen significant progress. At the current stage, we are busy establishing and organizing divisions, which is an important step toward creating a unified national army for the Kurdistan Region. This is a long-standing dream of our people that is now becoming reality.”

Zebari added: “All Kurdistan Peshmerga forces will be reorganized and armed, and a very orderly army will be created. So far, four divisions have been completed and started operations, and now three other divisions have been prepared and are in the final stages and are going for training and exercise, and it is planned that by the end of 2026, the Kurdistan Region will have 11 Peshmerga divisions.”

He also stated: “All our Peshmerga must work only under the sacred flag of Kurdistan and by the order of the government and presidency of the Kurdistan Region because this is important for maintaining the unity and sovereignty of our region. Therefore, we insist on continuing this process and call on all sides to support this national step, because only through unity can we build a stronger and more stable region.”
