The Kurdistan Region is deepening its diplomatic and economic partnership with the United Arab Emirates, building on shared interests, investment opportunities, and governance expertise.
On December 4, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani arrived in Abu Dhabi for an official visit, welcomed by Saeed Al Hajeri, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The trip included meetings aimed at expanding cooperation and reinforcing long-standing ties.
A key meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan focused on Iraq’s political landscape and regional security, highlighting the UAE’s commitment to supporting stability and strengthening its partnership with the Kurdistan Region. Barzani also welcomed the appointment of a new UAE envoy for economic affairs, signaling long-term investment in the region’s development.
Discussions with Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasized collaboration across security, governance, investment, and cultural exchange, reaffirming that stronger ties benefit both parties and regional stability.
The partnership’s foundations were strengthened in 2022 with a Memorandum of Understanding to modernize government operations, exchange expertise, and advance digital services. Today, the Kurdistan Region–UAE relationship stands as a model for growth, stability, and modern governance in the Middle East.
