Largest museum in the Kurdistan Region to be built in Duhok

A major cultural project is set to transform Duhok city with the construction of the largest museum in the Kurdistan Region. Planned to meet international standards, the museum will span 82 dunams (roughly 20 acres) of land, with an estimated budget of nearly $100 million. Inspired by the world-renowned Louvre Museum in Paris, the new institution aims to become a prominent cultural hub in the region.

The museum will feature a series of exhibition halls dedicated to showcasing archaeological artifacts, drawing visitors from around the world. The first phase of the project has already secured approval, with the land plot selected for construction. If completed to the envisioned standards, the total construction cost is expected to surpass $100 million.

In addition to the museum itself, plans include the creation of a pedestrian path that will connect Aluka Park with the museum, extending all the way to Mount Zawa. This new pathway will link a natural park with a heritage park, enhancing the area’s appeal and helping to attract more tourists to Duhok Governorate.

Once completed, the museum will not only serve as a cultural landmark but also contribute to the region’s growing tourism sector.
