Mam Khalil’s teahouse in Erbil, which has a 70-year history and is located in the Qaysari Market, welcomes local guests and foreign tourists with its unique decor. The Qaysari Market, which is located opposite Erbil Citadel, contains hundreds of shops selling various items and different goods such as gold, spices, and textiles.
This teahouse is visited by most consuls and country representatives who tour the market, where they take a rest. Inside the teahouse, pictures of most Kurdish leaders, writers, authors, and artists are hung on the walls.
This teahouse was established in 1952 by Mam Khalil, and after Mam Khalil passed away in 2015, it has been managed by his son, Muhammad Khalil Salih.
After Mam Khalil’s death, his son returned from abroad for the sake of the teahouse, saying, “I didn’t want this teahouse to disappear because it holds memories of my father.”
Mam Khalil’s teahouse is a historical symbol of Erbil city. The citizens of Erbil enjoy coming here and take pride in it.
