President Barzani attends 11th Mesopotamia health congress in Erbil

The 11th Mesopotamia Health Congress, one of the region’s most important medical gatherings, was held in Erbil with the participation of more than 800 doctors from across Kurdistan and abroad. Established in 2008, the congress has become a leading platform for exchanging medical knowledge, showcasing global advancements, and fostering collaboration among healthcare professionals.
The two-day event highlighted the latest developments in medical science, with sessions covering disease treatment, preventive care, and interdisciplinary research. Participants discussed innovative approaches to controlling common illnesses and improving healthcare services throughout the region, emphasizing both local and international best practices.
President Masoud Barzani attended the opening ceremony, praising doctors from all four parts of Kurdistan and the diaspora. Describing the medical profession as “sacred,” he emphasized that Kurdish individuals possess high scientific capabilities that are a source of national pride.
Addressing the recent humanitarian crisis in Rojava (Western Kurdistan), Barzani underscored efforts to prevent large-scale conflict and expressed gratitude for the national unity demonstrated by Kurds in providing aid. He specifically acknowledged the Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF) and the KRG Ministry of Health for their extensive support to those affected, describing their work as a fulfillment of a patriotic and national duty.
President Barzani also reaffirmed support for the ongoing peace process in Northern Kurdistan (Turkey) and called for constructive solutions to political challenges between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, stressing honesty and dialogue as essential for progress.
In his address, he highlighted the unprecedented national solidarity witnessed during recent events, praising the thousands of volunteers and organizations that provided assistance to those in need. He said, “The unity and national sentiment we witnessed are invaluable and provide strength for the future. We must continue to prioritize peace, while remaining ready to defend our people against oppression.”
The 11th Mesopotamia Health Congress not only served as a scientific forum for advancing healthcare in the Kurdistan Region but also demonstrated the intersection of professional excellence and national unity, reinforcing Erbil’s position as a hub for both medical innovation and Kurdish solidarity.
