Sarhaladan park opens in Duhok as new green landmark

Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, has officially inaugurated Sarhaladan Park in the Baroshke neighborhood of Duhok. The new landmark, covering a vast green area, is designed to serve as both a recreational space for residents and a new tourist attraction for the city.
The park features restaurants, fountains, a Roman-style arena, sports facilities, playgrounds, and landscaped gardens, with green spaces making up 75 percent of its total area. Officials say the project has not only enhanced the appearance of Duhok but has also created a healthier and more family-friendly environment.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his pride in the project and called on citizens to make the best use of such initiatives. “It is a pleasure to see the results of projects emerge and people benefiting from them,” he said. “There is no favor involved; this is our duty, and we must serve our people.”
Barzani also highlighted the environmental challenges facing the region, warning against pollution in Kurdistan’s natural and tourist areas. “Kurdistan is everyone’s home, blessed with beautiful nature and tourist sites. We must all protect this environment,” he stressed. He further urged local authorities to implement strict guidelines and penalties for those who pollute.
Reflecting on the site’s transformation, Barzani noted that the land once housed craftsmen and automotive workshops, which have since been relocated to more suitable industrial zones. “Now this place has been turned into a modern park where families can enjoy sports, children can play safely, and everyone can find peace in nature,” he said.
In closing, Barzani praised the resilience of the Kurdish people and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to future development. “Our people have endured challenges and misfortunes with strength, but better days are ahead. God willing, many more projects will be carried out in Duhok and across Kurdistan to serve our citizens.”
With its opening, Sarhaladan Park is expected to become one of the most popular destinations in Duhok, offering residents and tourists alike a new space for leisure, culture, and community gatherings.
