Soran’s landmark bridge set to be Iraq’s tallest

By the end of this year, the Soran Independent Administration will unveil Iraq’s tallest bridge, set to stand more than 30 meters high. The ambitious project is being implemented under the guidance of Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, who recommended it as part of a broader push to develop the area’s infrastructure and tourism potential.
Classified as one of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s strategic infrastructure projects, the bridge is currently under construction, with significant progress already made. Officials plan to open part of the bridge to the public before the end of the year, giving residents and visitors their first experience of the landmark even as work continues.
Rajab Zubair, the mayor of Soran, said that teams are working day and night to meet the timeline. The project carries an estimated budget of 40 billion Iraqi dinars and has already created numerous job opportunities for local citizens, boosting the region’s economy.
The Independent Administration of Soran was officially established on July 28, 2021, under Council of Ministers Decision No. 107. It comprises six districts and thirteen sub-districts and has quickly gained recognition for its natural beauty and tourism appeal.
Home to some of the Kurdistan Region’s most visited tourist destinations, Soran attracts thousands of visitors each year with its mountains, rivers, and scenic landscapes. The KRG has invested heavily in the area in recent years, improving infrastructure and public services. The new bridge is expected to become both a practical transportation link and a striking landmark that enhances Soran’s tourism profile.
