In the Downtown Market of Erbil, 120 statues of influential Kurdish women have been installed to honor their contributions to the nation’s history, culture, and resistance. Each statue represents a Kurdish hero, revolutionary, writer, or literary figure who played a significant role in shaping Kurdish society.
The statues serve as both a tribute to the status of women and an educational display highlighting their roles in the cultural and political history of Kurdistan. Each figure is accompanied by a plaque that provides information about her life and achievements, offering visitors a deeper understanding of Kurdish heritage.
Among the honored women are Hapsa Khan Naqib, Naima Mustafa, Aisha Gul, Nahida Sheikh Salam, Adila Khanim, Khanzad of the Soran Emirate, Daya Gula, Teacher Sanawbar, Khaja Bawa, Daifa Khatoun, Sayyida Mama Khatoun, Mayan Khatoun, Zarifa, Qadamkhair, Layla Zana, and Khadija Mustafa. These statues stand as powerful symbols of leadership, sacrifice, knowledge, and resistance.
