The role of women in Kurdish media

By Larisa Muhamed Abdulrahman

The media is one of the most influential forces of the modern era, and one of the foundations of human society,It plays an important role in shaping and developing cultural thinking in society, and women are an important part of this field and are constantly striving to achieve their rightful place. In Kurdish society, women have historically faced various crises and challenges, but in the past two decades, especially after the establishment of the Kurdistan Region as a relatively independent federal region, there has been a significant change in the role and position of women in the Kurdish media. As Kurdish women have proven to be capable and determined, our society should encourage women to participate in the development of our country alongside men in all fields. Historically, Kurdish women’s participation in the media has been very limited and has often been used only as a subject of writing or photography. However, with the development of technology and the establishment of television channels, radios and websites, the role of women has changed dramatically.
Today, Kurdish women are active as journalists, columnists, presenters directors and media managers. One of the most important achievements of women in Kurdish media is to gain a voice to express their problems and disagreements. Kurdish women have used the media to speak out about their rights, and they play an important role in presenting social, economic and political issues. Exclusive interviews and media reports are all evidence of this progress. However, there are still various barriers for women in the media work, including adherence to traditional traditions, lack or lack of family support, and facing economic hardships. In some media organizations, women are still seen as minor actors and underserved in important roles.
despite these challenges, TodayKurdish women continue to develop their skills and prove their skills in various fields of media. The result of these efforts is the growth of new thinking in the Kurdish society and the creation of a new generation of informed, capable, active and trustworthy women who have an effective role in creating a better future. Ultimately, the role of women in Kurdish media has changed from a historical event to a reality that needs to be further It should be supported and developed, and we should all work together to support women who want to work in the media field. The Kurdish media needs a woman’s voice because women are half of the society and without the participation of women, a media would not be complete.
