Third Tahini and local products festival held in Amedi

Amedi hosted the third annual festival celebrating local products, with 80 stalls showcasing the region’s famous tahini. Produced in the area for nearly 500 years, Amedi tahini has gained a worldwide reputation and remains a top choice for buyers both in Kurdistan and abroad.
The district is well-suited for agriculture, and tahini is its most renowned product. There are currently 40 water and electric mills in Amedi producing homemade tahini. The district ranks first in the Duhok governorate for sesame cultivation, yielding high-quality tahini each year. About 1,000 donums of land are used to grow sesame, producing around 240 tonnes of tahini annually.
At the festival, visitors enjoyed tahini, pomegranates, homemade honey, jams, various Kurdish foods, handicrafts, and other local products. Amedi tahini, including the historic “Pra Isa” brand, is processed through nine traditional Kurdish stages and sold immediately after production, often at 10,000 dinars per kilogram. Its homemade nature and absence of chemicals make it highly sought after by buyers from across Kurdistan and international markets.
Officials noted that each year, local products are presented with improved packaging and displays, helping producers attract more visitors and increase sales.
