Kurdish doctor receives prestigious international medical honor

Dr. Ghazi Zebari recognized for advances in organ transplantation and robotic surgery.

Medical institutions and healthcare professionals have praised the achievements of Ghazi Zebari, a Kurdish physician in the United States who has received the distinguished “International Outstanding Physician” title from the American College of Physicians.
The award is considered one of the highest international recognitions in medicine and is presented to physicians who have made exceptional contributions to research, treatment, or surgical innovation.
Dr. Zebari is internationally recognized for his work in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation and is regarded as one of the leading specialists in the field. He also founded the Organ Transplant Centre in Louisiana, where he has helped save the lives of thousands of patients through advanced surgical procedures.
In addition to his medical career in the United States, Dr. Zebari has regularly organized volunteer medical missions to different regions of the world, particularly to the Kurdistan Region, where he and his teams have performed complex surgeries for patients with limited financial resources.
Medical experts said one of the main reasons behind the award was Dr. Zebari’s pioneering role in introducing robotic technology into organ transplantation and complex abdominal surgery. By integrating systems such as the Da Vinci surgical platform into advanced procedures, he helped improve surgical precision while reducing pain, bleeding, and recovery time for patients.
Specialists described his work as a major advancement in modern surgery and praised his contribution to reshaping surgical techniques in the twenty-first century.
Dr. Zebari has also played an important role in supporting healthcare development in Kurdistan by providing medical equipment and helping train young Kurdish physicians in American medical centers.
Officials and medical professionals said the recognition highlights the growing global impact of Kurdish physicians and could strengthen cooperation between medical institutions in Kurdistan and leading international healthcare centers.
