Dukan–Slemani water project aims to end shortages

The Kurdistan Regional Government’s strategic Dukan–Slemani 3 Water Project has completed its design and entered the first of three implementation phases, aiming to address water shortages across Slemani.
The project includes a main reservoir with a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters, which will connect directly to the city’s water network and supply residential areas across Slemani.
Bakhtiyar Tahir, director of the Slemani Water Directorate, told the KRG Department of Media and Information that the project would integrate the city’s water networks to ensure all neighborhoods and residential areas receive adequate water supplies.
The project is also expected to help maintain the flow of Sarchnar Spring during the dry season, benefiting neighborhoods that rely on its water.
Upon completion of the first phase, the project is expected to supply 10,000 cubic meters of clean drinking water per hour. Once fully completed, capacity will reach 20,000 cubic meters per hour.
The project will be built entirely by a local workforce and is intended to provide a long-term solution to Slemani’s water shortages.
