Diyarbakır club reaches first place after dramatic 3–2 victory over Beşiktaş
Amedspor president Nahît Eren has hailed the Kurdish club’s rise to the top of the Turkish Super Lig, saying its success carries the hopes of millions of supporters.
Eren made the remarks after Amedspor defeated Beşiktaş 3–2 at home in the sixth week of the league, a result that sent the Diyarbakır-based club to the summit of the standings.
“Amedspor is a club of millions of people, the hope of millions of people,” Eren said at a press conference on Tuesday.
He described Amedspor as a major and influential club and said its rapid rise had established it among Turkey’s top-flight teams.
The president pledged to protect the club’s progress and keep its focus on football and sporting success.
“We will do everything we can to strengthen and protect this position,” Eren said, adding that the club would not allow outside issues to undermine its achievements.
Amedspor’s position at the top of the Super Lig marks another significant milestone in the club’s rise through Turkish football. The Diyarbakır side has climbed from the third tier to the country’s highest division, attracting growing attention from supporters across the Kurdish community.
Eren acknowledged that the club still has shortcomings but said it was moving in the right direction.
The victory over Beşiktaş has now placed Amedspor at the center of the Turkish league standings, giving the Kurdish club an important early-season milestone as it continues its campaign in the country’s top flight.
