Breaking barriers: Kurdish female artist debuts  song  in Syriac

Hozan Alin, a talented female artist from Western Kurdistan (Rojava), has released a groundbreaking song in the Syriac language, highlighting the harmonious coexistence of diverse religious and national groups in Kurdistan.

Alin, known for her songs about the Peshmerga and President Barzani, explained that her upbringing in an environment rich in cultural diversity inspired her to create the song. “All parts of Kurdistan are places where religious and national components coexist, and there has never been any discrimination. I grew up in an environment where I had friendships with Christians, which led me to sing in Syriac and learn their language,” she shared.

The song, titled ‘Honle Honle,’ is a tribute to the Christian community, presented in a fresh and unique style. Alin expressed her hope that her work could contribute to unifying the Kurdish people across all regions of Kurdistan, particularly as the Kurds in Western Kurdistan face sensitive and challenging times. “The best solution to our problems is unity and cooperation,” she said. “I wish for freedom and prosperity for all parts of Kurdistan.”

The song’s lyrics and melody were composed by artist Juliana Jundo, with music and arrangement by Memo Gul, and the video was directed by Hazhar Dohoki. This debut in Syriac marks a significant step in promoting unity and cultural understanding among the diverse peoples of Kurdistan.
