Sulaymaniyah celebrates its anniversary

Sulaymaniyah, long regarded as both a centre of struggle and the cultural capital of Kurdistan, celebrated the two hundred forty first anniversary of its founding with a two day festival that highlighted the city’s artistic and folkloric heritage. The event brought together writers, poets, artists, and citizens, all dressed in traditional Kurdish clothing.
The celebrations took place at the Sulaymaniyah Heights project. The first day ran from two in the afternoon until seven in the evening, while the second day began at noon and continued until seven. The programme included a range of folkloric performances and cultural activities, along with exhibitions from local brands and business owners.
Concerts were held by well known artists Nasri Razazi and Rawa Jamal, alongside other performers. Organisers noted that attendance exceeded that of the previous year due to the growing interest of residents in the annual celebration of their city’s history and identity.
