The ninth “Hawajes” International Exhibition brings together 42 artists at Amna Suraka Gallery to celebrate artistic diversity and cultural exchange.
The ninth “Hawajes” International Exhibition has opened at the Amna Suraka Gallery in Sulaymaniyah, featuring a collaborative fine arts exhibition by 42 Kurdish and Arab artists under the title “Colors Connect Us in the City of Beauty.”
Tara Shazaman, one of the participating artists, said she contributed two paintings to the exhibition and highlighted the diversity of artistic styles represented by the participating artists.
“Every painting tells its own story,” Shazaman said. “The viewer is not presented with a single vision of the world. Each artist expresses emotions and ideas through a distinct artistic language.”
She said color plays an important role in many of the works, serving not only as an aesthetic element but also as a means of expressing emotions, time, place, and psychological states.
“Warm colors can evoke vitality and movement, while cool colors can suggest calmness or distance,” she said. “Ultimately, however, it is the viewer who discovers their own meaning within the painting.”
Shazaman also emphasized the importance of women’s participation in visual arts and exhibitions, saying their presence goes beyond increasing the number of female participants.
“Women bring their own voices and perspectives to the artistic environment and contribute an important part of the wider public conversation about art,” she said.
She also highlighted the significance of holding the exhibition in Sulaymaniyah, describing the city as one of Kurdistan’s important centers for art and culture.
According to Shazaman, hosting an international exhibition of this scale strengthens connections among artists from different backgrounds and provides opportunities to exchange artistic experiences, ideas, and perspectives.
