In a showcase of grit and sporting excellence, the Duhok Women’s Club 6-a-side team was crowned champions of the Iraq Women’s Minifootball Cup on Sunday, February 15, 2026. The local favorites secured the title after a tense final against Al-Budair Club, held at the Duhok SC Stadium.
The high-stakes match was attended by a delegation of prominent officials, including the Governor of Duhok, the Director of Sports, and the head of the Olympic Committee representation, highlighting the growing prestige of women’s athletics in the region. The final was defined by a fierce defensive struggle. Despite high-intensity play from both sides, the match remained goalless through regulation time. Al-Budair, a squad featuring a majority of talented Kurdish players, matched Duhok’s pace stride for stride, leading to a tactical stalemate that forced the game into a penalty shootout.
During the shootout, the Duhok Women’s team demonstrated superior composure, ultimately triumphing with a 2-1 victory on penalties. The stadium erupted in celebration as the team hoisted the national trophy on home soil. Following the match, an awards ceremony recognized standout performers. Duhok Women took home the trophy and the majority of individual accolades, while Al-Budair’s defensive and midfield excellence was also honored. Among the awards, Aras Salih of Duhok Women was named Best Coach, Yusra Ibrahim of Duhok Women received the Top Scorer award, and Sipel Shukir of Duhok Women earned the Fair Play Award. From Al-Budair, Israa Adnan was recognized as Best Player and Dilpak Jabbar as Best Goalkeeper.
