Kurdistan Democratic Party spokesperson Mahmoud Mohammed said the KDP and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) political bureaus will meet soon, followed by a summit between the two parties’ leaderships.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, August 29, 2026, Mohammed said the Kurdistan Parliament should be reactivated as soon as possible and preparations should begin to form the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
He said the upcoming meetings could help advance political rapprochement between the two parties, but added that it was too early to discuss the outcome.
“We will not get ahead of events; once the meetings are held, we can speak clearly about the outcomes,” Mohammed said, emphasizing that dialogue is the only way to resolve the remaining political issues.
He also thanked the political parties that have worked to ease the current political deadlock, saying they have a “national and patriotic responsibility” in the process.
On elections and the legal term of parliament, Mohammed said that if an agreement is reached to reactivate parliament and form a new cabinet, there would be no need to determine in advance whether elections should be held after three or four years. He said the issue would be addressed at the appropriate time.
